A lot of people thought he was dogging it to tank his value and DET's interest in playing/keeping him - which I think was a bit of a stretch, but when he dunked (edit: for the first time in 2 seasons) for his first bucket as a Net after people predicting him doing so, and then caught an oop while dropping 17 the other day, it definitely confirmed a lot of peoples' bias lol

Blake gave the Pistons a lot in their last playoff appearance despite the fact he easily could have sat with a rather severe nagging injury. The Pistons decided they'd try and rebuild, likely tried to trade Blake but couldn't find a partner and ultimately knew that Blake wasn't going to risk injury for the 29th best team in the league.

Anyone who actually thought Blake was giving it his all in Detroit was on something, but his injury history and lack of quickness still make him iffy at best and a potential target for other teams in the playoffs. Just because he's giving effort now doesn't magically mean he'll be a game changer.

I think people are confusing two different things. You can suck at being a star but still be too good as the fucking 100000th option on another team.

No one is seriously saying it’s bullshit that Blake and LA are going to the Nets for peanuts because they are going to transform the starting lineup, it’s because they are still undervalued as a role player even if they are overvalued as a star.

It’s especially annoying when it’s clearly ring chasing.

Nice summation. Being the best player on a team and being criticized is one thing. It’s another to join a team as the 4th option and know you’ve been an all star the majority of your career. Comparing criticism between those scenarios is apples to oranges. Not comparable. No team wouldn’t want Blake Griffin as the #4 guy on the offense.

Not a small market team issue, it's a non-contending team issue.

Bucks have ben claiming guys off the buyout market. Cavs had buyout guys when they were contending. Spurs when they were still contending picked up Borris Diaw off the buyout market.

It's not that these players are going to big market teams for the allure of it. This year it just happens to be that big market teams are also the 2 of the best.

People here really underrate that players want to play with LeBron, Harden, KD, Steph (during their dynasty) because you contend and those guys make your life a lot easier and maybe more fun. Wherever those guys played would be destinations for buyouts.

Nets have been bottom feeders until 2019. We were a no market team before then, NYC was a knicks town and Brooklyn was the little guy who got shat on.

Half a season into being a contender and everyone is saying the Nets are some behemoth like the Lakers and we can get anyone just by being in a luxury market. It's crazy to me how quickly people have changed.

Plus, these are not situations like the Melo thing were he was out of the league for a long time and it even looked like he might retire. Blake and Aldridge have been active. Yeah they're not in the prime of their careers, but getting them that cheap is a total scam. With a team this stacked, with three fucking all stars, these two folks will have all the liberty to succeed in a role player role.

It's as if suddenly anyone could sign Kevin Love for $2mil he'd go from one of the worst assets in the league to one of the best.

the solution would probably involve a ton of restrictions that would never get passed because the star players have too much power and the fans will always unconditionally support them, any kind of fix would just cause both groups to riot. People dont want to admit the player empowerment movement has gone way too far, we are way past players should use their leverage and can demand trades into players can literally pick whatever team they want to play for contracts be dammned and teams should answer to their every demand.
